TANAUAN CITY, BATANGAS- The City of Tanauan marks its 442nd foundation year on March 8,2014
with the unveiling of a larger than life bronze statue of Gat. Apolinario M. Mabini.
The statue is donated by the First Asia Insititute of Technology and Humanitires (FAITH) to the people of Tanauan as the city gears up for the sesquicentennial anniversary of Mabini, the foremost son of Tanauan and Batangas In a ceremonial turnover heln on 23 January 2014, no less than city mayor Antonio Halili accepted and signed the Deed of Donation for the Mabini bronze sculpture together with FAITH president Saturnino G. Belen
FAITH commissioned reowned artist Julie Lluch to create the larger than life bronze sculpture of Mabini that is donated to the City of Tanauan. Lluch is credited for the public sculpture commissions of Carlos P. Romulo on UN Avenue, Manila; Arsenio Lacson, Ninoy Aquino, and Emilio Javier, and Plaridel monuments Manila, and Pres. Manuel L. Quezon monument in Quezon Province among others.In the evening, a Parade of Lights featuring colorful floats and lively street danceing will be going around the main thoroughfares of Tanauan, capping the day-long festivities for this City of Colors.
The year 2014 marks the sesquicentennial anniversary of Mabini with the theme "Mabini: Talino at Paninindigan". Working closely with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Tanauan local government unit, FAITH is the private institution taking the lead in celebrating Mabini@150.
Born on 23 July 1864 in Tanauan, Batangas, Mabini is known as one of many Filipino heroes who defended the rights and freedom of our beloved country. He was poor and suffered from a disability, but he had the intelligence and brilliance of mind that made him the "Brains of the Revolution".
In January 2014, FAITH launched the Mabini@150 website found at www.amabini.com. The website showcases stories on Mabini and a virtual tour of the Mabini Shrine.
On May 9-10, 2014, FAITH and community-based youth leaders from CALBARZON and MIMAROPA are organized CAMYLLA-the Calabarzon-Mimaropa Youth Leadership Learning Adventure with the theme "Mabini, My Hero!"
On July 19,2014, engineering students of CALABARZON will be competed in ASSISTECH: Assistive Electronics Technology Competition held at the FAITH campus. Also on the same day, a seminar for Persons with Disabilities dubbed "Living Life without Limitations" held in FAITH with the Tanauan Social Orientation and Community Involvement(SOCI).
